Keep on running: music for miserable mornings and never-ending nights

 run

What we’ve found with choosing songs to run to is that the good ones are not always the ones you’re expecting. When you think exercise music you generally think Eye Of The Tiger and the Rocky theme song (which can all be quite motivating) but sometimes it’s songs that you’re not expecting to be motivating which actually push you to work harder than you thought.

We’ve just gone through our current running playlist and picked out that ones we really enjoy running to. Some of them are really good for pushing us to go faster (particularly numbers 2, 4, 36). Others are better for when you’re just cruising along and even though you don’t run your fastest mile with these ones they probably contribute to a much more enjoyable mile (numbers 6, 10, 21, 35).

It sounds strange but the weather and time of day changes your enjoyment of a song too, I like chilled out slower songs on summer mornings (16, 18, 33) when I don’t need to worry about timings or rushing back home and more upbeat motivating songs on winter nights (11, 19, 30) when I’m struggling to motivate myself.

Some of the songs below are songs we don’t even like in real life (21, 27, 37), but for some reason listening to them while pounding the pavements gives them a new lease of life (so firstly don’t judge us as this isn’t necessarily a list of our favourite songs, and equally don’t write a song off because you don’t actually like it). You might also find that songs that you really like aren’t good to run to.
