It’s a date!

Yesterday was a big day in the King household. First off it was national date day (as in the fruit, not the Valentine’s kind) but that was somewhat overshadowed by Ric’s birthday.

To celebrate both occasions we went to Angels restaurant in Ribchester for a 5 course taster menu I bought a groupon voucher for.

The first 2 courses were both meat free, the highlight of which was the celeriac veloutΓ© with mushroom and apple although the heritage tomatoes with charred watermelon, mozzarella and whipped feta wasn’t far behind it.

Next up were the mains and we both agreed that the roasted hake with coconut, lime and ginger sauce pipped the blade of beef with pea and shallot fricassee and pickled carrots to the post of best main. An obvious choice for me being a fish fiend but a triumph for meat loving Ric.

Dessert was a chocolate iced mousse with a brownie and caramelised banana (with popping candy) which we both polished off in no time despite being stuffed from the previous four courses (plus canapΓ©s, bread and chips). We also managed to make room for some petits fours (sambuca fudge and mini crispy cake) and a coffee before waddling out the restaurant five stone heavier than we entered.

Although there wasn’t a date in sight it was an amazing meal and a bargain for Β£25 per person!
