REVIEW: The Garden, Hale

Long on our list of places to visit, we finally made it to the swanky town of Hale for a trip to The Garden organic café last month.

After months of stalking and double tapping their Instagram feed we knew it was going to be our kinda place and it did not disappoint.

Standing proudly on the main road through Hale town centre (which is so fancy the locals pegged us as out-of-towners from a mile off), The Garden is a small but perfectly formed healthy haven for the town’s yummy mummies and posh professionals.

Having said that, the welcome was warmer than we could have imagined and all of the staff were absolutely lovely – so we felt at home from the second we walked in and started poring over the brunch menu. When I nipped to the (also lovely) loos and spied huge labelled tubs full of chia, pumpkin and sunflower seeds in the kitchen next door I felt like I was in a home from home (unlike when I go to Chaz’s house, I refrained from opening the fridge and helping myself).

Arriving around 11am we made a beeline for the Good Morning Greens – avocado, grated tomato, alkalising sprouts and basil oil on toasted artisan bread (we added poached eggs). Initially worried this was a cop out as it’s something we’d eat at home, we quickly realised this was a far cry from our domestic efforts. It was hands down the best avo and eggs combo we’ve ever had, the tomato (how do you even grate a tomato?) tasted amazing and the whole thing was so delicious – all four of us ordered the same and no one was disappointed.

The smoothie and juice menu was up there with the best we’ve seen – between four of us we knocked back Green Peace (spinach, avo, apple, kale, cucumber, parsley, wheatgrass, spirulina AND a donation to the charity of the same name as if you couldn’t feel any smugger), Holy Cacao (raw cacao, maca, banana, avo, maple syrup, chia seeds and almond milk – declared by chocoholic Sarah to be the best chocolate milkshake she’d tasted) and Purple Rain (apple juice, banana, mixed berries, avocado, baobab and acai).

Firm believers in the breakfast pudding, we felt it our duty to you to sample the selection of desserts on offer too. There was a green tea coconut cheesecake that had Kings and Greens written all over it. For some reason we opted to share – we operate the same sharing policy as Joey under normal circumstances but we had a big day of eating ahead so showed restraint.

It was AMAZING – the best healthy pudding I’ve ever tasted and we are still talking about it a month later. A member of staff overheard our raving and dragged her colleague who had made it over to our table so we could let her know how much we enjoyed it – such nice staff always makes a huge difference to the dining experience.

Sarah and Terri shared the carrot cake which looked incredible too – we were spoilt for choice and our selections went perfectly with the matcha green lattes and water infused with peaches and strawberries. It was like someone created our dream eaterie, we have honestly never been more excited about food and that’s saying something for a pair of unbelievably greedy little piggies.

If you get chance to go to The Garden, Hale you DEFINITELY should – we are ridiculously excited our friends Kate and Mark are moving there to give us an excuse to plan our second visit to dip into the lunch menu and get the recipe for the cheesecake of our dreams!
